Considering eWed Insurance for your event insurance needs? The below eWed review was part of a broader analysis of over a dozen insurers and includes an analysis of why being listed on Forbes Advisor is not what it seems.
Overall we give eWed Insurance a 2.5 out of 5 based on our analysis criteria found here.
The Forbes Advisor Scheme
Forbes and Forbes Advisor, although related, can be considered two different publications. Forbes Advisor is run by a separate company called Marketplace and is leveraging Forbes’ brand and domain authority to rank high on Google search results (AKA parasite SEO). There, they insert their own affiliate/commission links to monetize those pages. Here is the page the eWed Insurance review is found. You will notice that the eWed link is an affiliate link to “Shareasale.com”, which are common affiliate platform.
Also, it is speculated that Marketplace also runs the affiliate pages of CNN Underscored and USA Today.
Lars Lofgren does a good breakdown of how Forbes Advisor works here and why their “unbiased reviews” might not be so unbiased after all.
Forbes Advisor Exposed?
The Forbes Advisor scheme may have finally been exposed and it appears Google may be taking action, according to Jackie at Indexsy:
This is great news for those looking for unbiased reviews.
Price Shock?
eWed policies start at $125 (including fees) for $1M/$2M (occurrence/aggregate) general liability limits which is slightly higher than average compared to insurers like GatherGuard which offer $1M/$2M GL for $75.
However the true price shock happens if you/your venue need the waiver of subrogation and primary noncontributory endorsements. With eWed, this can easily add over $150 to the policy, whereas insurers like specialinsurance.com include both at no additional cost.
What We Like About eWed
- $0 deductibles
- Higher limits ($2M/$3M) available online
- Host liquor included at no additional cost
- Rehearsal dinner (the night before) and breakfast/brunch (the day after) are automatically covered
What we didn’t like about eWed
- Medical expense coverage is an add on
- Hard to determine who the actual insurer is: “Liability insurance coverage is provided by a company with an A.M. Best Company rating of A++ (Superior)“
- No obvious refund policy if the policy needs to be cancelled
- Big price jump if Waiver of Subrogation and Primary Noncontributory endorsements are needed
Lowest Cost Available
$125
- $1M/$2M (occurrence/aggregate) GL
- Damage to rented premises seems to be rolled into GL
- Host liquor included
- No medical expense coverage
