Considering Wedsure for your event insurance needs? The below Wedsure review is intended to provide context on their various claims, including why being named #1 on Forbes Advisor is not what it seems.
Wedsure was analyzed as part of a broader review of a dozen event insurance companies. Overall we gave Wedsure a 2 out of 5 based on our analysis criteria found here.
The Forbes Advisor Scheme
Forbes and Forbes Advisor, although related, can be considered two different entities or publications. Forbes Advisor is run by a separate company called Marketplace and is leveraging Forbes’ brand and domain authority to rank high on Google search results (AKA parasite SEO). There, they insert their own affiliate/commission links to monetize those pages. Here is the page the Wedsure review is found. You will notice that any links that are linking out to the insurers have an affiliate link like “Shareasale.com”, which are common affiliate link platforms.
Also, it is speculated that Marketplace also runs the affiliate pages of CNN Underscored and USA Today.
Lars Lofgren does a good breakdown of how Forbes Advisor works here and why their “unbiased reviews” might not be so unbiased after all.
Forbes Advisor Exposed?
The Forbes Advisor scheme may have finally been exposed and it appears Google may be taking action, according to Jackie at Indexsy:
This is great news for those looking for unbiased reviews.
What We Like About Wedsure
- Around since 1995 (wow!)
- Lots of GL options all the way up to $2M/$5M
- Host liquor included
- Can get an initial quote quickly (see downside below)
What We Didn’t Like About Wedsure
- It’s hard to tell what’s included in the initial quote
- i.e. It doesn’t ask you for the number of attendees before showing you a quote, which is usually a big factor in the final price
- Forces users to create an account in order to make a purchase
- This doesn’t make sense to us, especially for weddings which are (hopefully) one time
- At least a $1,000 deductible on property damage (you can choose up to $10,000)
- Damage to rented premises coverage appears to be combined with GL
- Primary Noncontributory endorsement not offered
- Hard to determine who the actual insurer is that’s backing the policies
Wedsure The Best Choice?
Another thing to watch out for is random icons like the below. These can be created by anyone.
Another famous example of icons like this was with Ashley Madison’s security and trust related icons that were exposed in the Netflix documentary. In short, the icons were made internally and didn’t really mean anything.
