What We Liked About SpeciaInsurance.com

SpecialInsurance.com by GBLI is one of the newer players in the space and their offering is very impressive.

  • Starts at $160 for GL coverage with limits of $1M/$2M (occurrence/aggregate)
  • $300,000 damage to rented premises included, with the option to upgrade to $500k or $1M
  • Waiver of Subrogation and Primary Noncontributory endorsements are included in the price (see note below)
  • No deductibles
  • Host liquor liability included
  • Online purchase experience is great on desktop and on mobile
  • Costs update in real time so you don’t have to go all the way to the end to see the final price
  • The venue’s additional insured information is automatically added if the venue is known to them
  • Sold directly by the insurer (no middlemen)
  • Amazing sample policy feature
  • Coverage can extend beyond midnight depending on state liquor laws, in which case only 1 day of coverage is required
  • Coverage for set up and/or rehearsal dinner (the day before) and tear down and/or brunch the following day can be included for free
  • Cannabis coverage available in some states (we could confirm availability in CA and NY)
  • Residential properties seem to be okay

What We Didn’t Like About SpecialInsurance.com

  • No options to remove the Waiver of Subrogation or Primary Noncontributory endorsements (we feel this could bring down the price)
  • Need to call in to add Waiver of Subrogation (unless the venue is already known to them, in which case the system will add the endorsement automatically)
  • Coverage not available in CO, DC, FL, GA, MA, VT, WA
  • We question whether the $300K/$600K GL limit is even worthwhile offering considering $1M/$2M GL starts at $160 and most venue’s now require $1M/$2M GL to start anyways?

Lowest Cost Available

$119

  • $300K/$600K (occurrence/aggregate) GL
  • $300,000 damage to rented premises
  • Host liquor included
  • $5,000 medical expense limit
